Designing a vacuum cleaner user interface with TFT screen.

Overview

The red dot design award-winning cordless stick vacuum cleaner “Power Clean” has been enhanced with a smart feature called auto suction level adjustment. UI design was improved with a TFT screen in order to communicate its pro features in a better way.

I designed the TFT screen UI to achieve a clean look and also a clear information design.

The most important information; suction mode, suction level and remaining time need to be involved in a small display area.

The color code was used in order to emphasize the relation between suction level and remaining time, and also to support user follow the battery level information without reading the battery level information.

Remaining time and battery level was changing dynamically according to which suction level is used.

That’s why showing the battery level and remaining time and emphasizing these dynamic change was important.

Another added value to UI design was designing error screens. Here the challenge was to tell an error with a simple animation and guide the user to check the correct part of the product.

I used a wireframe representation of the product to let the user know in which part to look for the problem.
